Han River Park

So yesterday Whitney and I made the 10 minute walk to the Han River Park. The park is essentially a bike path, which you will get run over on if you're not paying attention, several exercise areas with equipment, and a walking path. All of these things over look the Han River and it is absolutely gorgeous. Of course I took lots of pictures, so here are some of my favorites...

My weekend

Wow! What a weekend! On Friday we went to the ballet, although I thought we were going ice skating and was significantly under dressed, it was a beautiful performance. I talked about it in my last post so if you want details go read that... :)
On Saturday I ate breakfast and then Whitney and I went exploring together. We walked around the neighborhood and local shops near us. We took familiar roads that we recognized from trips out with our family and even took some new roads, although we did avoid taking too many turns just in case. We spent the better part of 2 1/2 hours walking around and taking silly pictures
That afternoon we meet up with my family to explore a Korean castle... I was not aware that Korea had castles but apparently they have a few. On our way to the castle there was a quick change of plans and we went to the Olympic Park. Korea held the 1988 games, and they have a HUGE park and museum dedicated to the Olympics. We played baseball with the boys, ok we watched the boys play baseball, but we cheered them on. We walked around the Olympic museum, which has been updated with all the other Olympic games since 1988. The park itself was amazing. Everything was beautiful: there was a pond with fountains, a live band, an art exhibit on the green, and many playgrounds. We were there for probably 3 1/2 hours. When we got home we went to a friends house to celebrate a birthday. In Korea birthdays are celebrated with seaweed soup... yum yum
On Sunday I got up and went to church with "dad". He brought a bible that was both in English and in Korean so that I would be able to follow along. He also brought paper to translate the sermon with. It was the church's 41th birthday and I got a very nice towel as a gift. After the mass we ate lunch, since it was a birthday it was more seaweed soup... yum yum
After church and lunch I went back and changed to go to a park with Whitney and her family. We brought picnic food, badminton gear, mats to sit on, a diaper bag, purses, and several other bags that I still am unsure of their purpose. When we arrived I realized that we were going to the zoo, not a park. I am finding that because of the language barrier I am never going exactly where I think I am so I have begun just going with the flow and enjoy the surprises that are my destinations. Its better this way. It was Whitney, her "mom", Sung Ju**, her baby brother, and myself. It was a wonderful day spent looking at the different animals. We taught them how to say the animal name sin English and they taught us how to say them in Korean. We never played badminton, but we did enjoy the picnic food she brought plus the grilled squid they bought at the entrance.. nothing beats room temperature barely cooked squid peeled off in pieces like string cheese... surprisingly thought it was actually really good :)
We stayed longer than planned at the zoo and had to rush home to get dinner started. It was Ju Awns** Whitney's baby "brothers" 100th day old which in Korea is celebrated much like a birthday... thankfully no seaweed soup was served with dinner haha
It was a great first weekend here and I hope that all my weekends to come are a adventuresome and fun. I'll keep you posted. I hope you enjoyed your memorial day off, I was at school all day
love you all and miss you lots
