Greetings from South Korea!
It has not fully set in that I am actually here, but I am sure that it will set in soon. My flight left this morning at 10:25 as planned and landed at 3:00pm, which would be about 2:00am in the states. I was able to sleep the first few hours of the flight, but was awake for most of the trip. We flew over the northwest United States into Canada and Alaska and then over Russia and Japan. It was very cloudy the whole trip so I was not able to see anything but clouds out of the window. I was able to watch 4 or 5 different movies on the plane and made friends with the person next to me to help pass the time.
Once we landed we found our way through the airport and went through customs. The mayor and a few others were at the exit waiting for our arrival with flowers. They took our pictures and filmed us, it made me feel famous! We boarded a bus and made our way through traffic, it was similar to Atlanta traffic during rush hour. We received our cell phones, schedules, and bank account information on our bus ride to Seoul. We are staying at a hotel tonight and will meet our host families tomorrow morning. We walked to a local restaurant for our first Korean meal. It was the same style my Uncle Mark and Aunt Kerri told me about where they cook everything in a big pan on the table, I tried everything (but the beef) and found that it was very good :) We sat on the floor on small mats with our shoes off. It was a wonderful first meal in Korea and I am sure I will try that style of dinning again on my trip. Below are some pictures from my first day...
Us on the train at the airport while we searched for baggage claim
This one is for Christina, we always are on the lookout for a good bakery
(I'll let you know what its like when I can stop in for a tasty treat)
(I am not sure how to turn it on this computer so Ill fix it when I can get on my laptop)
My first Korean meal
That's all for now. It is 8:20pm here, which makes it 7:20am in the states. I love you all and will keep you posted on my adventures
